Executive Board Minutes
Executive Board Present:
Cookie O’Rourke, President
Dot Rodrick, Vice President
Ann Capelli, Tournament Chairperson
Absent: Jan Minneci, Secretary; Nancy Goss, Treasurer
Call to Order: No official Call to Order was made, however, the meeting opened at 10:30 am at Ann’s home in Manasquan.
Secretary’s Report: No report made.
Treasurer’s Report: No report made.
Standing Committee Reports: None made.
Weekly Tournaments for 2014:
The calendar dates for the Thursday tournaments were adjusted to reflect the year 2014. The opening of our season will be held with our traditional breakfast on April 17. The tournament for the day will be TEAM BEST BALL. Teams will consist of a mix of handicaps - for fairness. Cookie will work with Diane Haviland to set up the foursomes. Teams will not be flighted nor handicaps used in the final scoring. This will not be a score for posting in the GHIN system. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded to the winning teams. Those who do not have their GHINs activated or who are still working on getting a GHIN handicap will not be a part of the TEAM BEST BALL tournament. They will be placed at the end of the T times and will keep their scores to post. Ann will provide the rules for TEAM BEST BALL.
“BRING A FRIEND DAY” that was extremely popular last year will be held again. The date for this day will be July 10.
We will not extend the season into October. Our last golf day, including end of season luncheon, will be September 25.
Dot and Ann brought up how they enjoyed playing a tournament at Spring Meadow that involved using numbered, colored flags. A numbered flag, either 1 through 4, was placed by the green at each hole. The player whose number was on the flag at the green would have to use her score for that particular hole. This was a team tournament and proved to be a lot of fun. Ann will look into the details of getting the flags, etc., and possibly add TEAM FLAG to the schedule.
Ann will finalize the schedule and will include the dates for the Lakewood InterClub matches.
2014 Booklets:
It was decided not to print booklets for the members. The member information will be sent via a Member Directory file through an email to the members. The weekly tournament schedule will also be sent to the members in a file. Since everyone has an email address, they can print and/or save the information normally printed in a booklet.
2014 Membership:
Cookie reported there are still 19 who have not renewed their membership. A reminder will be sent to them after the first of the year. It was decided to place a poster in the Pro Shop to see if we can attract new members to the league. It was reiterated there can be no question as to meeting the requirement of having no higher than a 36 handicap.
Next Executive Board Meeting:
Cookie announced the next board meeting will be on April 3, 12 Noon at Maggie’s.
Myrn Bone Tournament:
As Cookie will be in Florida for February and March, we set January 23 to bring the MB chairs and committees together before she leaves. This meeting will also be at Maggie’s, 12 Noon. If the weather is not our friend that day, we will meet on January 29.
Dot is still looking for someone to chair the Breakfast committee. Excluding those who did not play InterClub 2013 due to high handicaps, there are four left who have not volunteered to work the Myrn Bone tournament: Fenton; Grenley; Wauters and Connors. Nola will be finishing up with school and Katie cannot confirm dates at this time. It was decided Dot would contact Alice and ask her to chair the committee. If Alice takes on this committee, it is anticipated she can get Mary to help out. With Pat Jahn assisting and others bringing breakfast items, we are hoping Alice will consent.
A question came up as to what dollar amount to spend on the goody bags as well as what to put into the goody bags. Cookie, Ann and Dot thought a chewy bar; a bag of chips and hard candies would be appropriate. Concern was also mentioned about this committee as Meredith does not come back to NJ until immediately before the season opens. Dot said she would email Meredith and ask if she thought she could keep the budget at $75. She would also ask Meredith if she needed a helper here in NJ.
The “Save the Date” flyers will be forwarded to the Captains of the InterClub teams right after the first of the year. Applications and display posters will be distributed March 1. As Lu’s MB designs incorporate the names of these teams, Cookie will contact BJ Austin to see if there is anything definitive on Bella Vista’s place in InterClub.

Executive Board Minutes
September 5, 2013
Present:
Cookie O’Rourke, President
Dot Rodrick, Vice President
Jan Minneci, Secretary
Nancy Goss, Treasurer
Katie Wauters, Tournament Chair
Also Present:
Hannah Infantolino, Chair of Prizes
Meeting was called to order by President, Cookie O’Rourke. This meeting was to discuss our budget as prize amounts needed to be determined for balance of aforesaid budget. Katie Wauters and Cookie O’Rourke gave out worksheets of prizes and possible amounts of money that have been won so far. Nancy Goss stated that there was $112.01 left from last year and $237.00 raised from 50/50 fund raisers.
The board discussed in detail the monies for our Club Championship. In the past we have had more members and we were paying higher prize amounts. We also discussed whether the A flight should have three winners since the Club Champion also comes out of the A flight. All flights are entitled to win that prestigious title but it is usually a person with a low handicap that wins. It was decided to keep it as it was; Club Champ, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places to be paid in each flight in the Club Championship.
Katie Wauters motioned that in the weekly prizes the amounts should be $5.00 for first place, $4.00 for second place, and $3.00 for third place. Also that longest drive and closest to the pin will pay $2.00 and Chip Ins will be pay $1.00. Low putts will pay $2.00 Should there be a tie for low putts, all winners will each receive $1.00. This motion was seconded by Dot Rodrick, and all were in favor.A discussion also ensued about the monies to be paid for Club Championship, and The President’s Cup. In the past the amount paid for these two tournaments was $100.00. Also discussed was the amount to be paid for each of the flights during the club championship.
Jan Minneci motioned to pay $75.00 for the winners of the Club Championship and the President’s Cup. The winners of the flights would be paid as follows; $60.00 for first, $40.00 for second, and $20.00 for third. Should the budget still not balance, then these amounts will go down appropriately. This motion was seconded by Katie Wauters.
Katie Wauters moved to designate tips of $50.00 for the desk person, and $50.00 for the cart person, 2nd by Dot Rodrick. It was also stated how friendly and helpful these two employees of the course have been to our league this year.
Cookie O’Rourke told the Board that our luncheon has to be changed to September 26th as the restaurant cannot accommodate us on October 3rd. Since Jan Minneci will not be present on that date, Dot Rodrick will take minutes.
The Board also discussed the need of raising our application fee from $75.00 to $80.00. This needs to be presented to the general membership and voted on at the final luncheon. The Board approved this being done.
The hostess’s salary was also discussed. Our hostess may also have to take a cut in pay if the budget does not balance. Hopefully this will not have to be done.
Cookie O’Rourke and Dot Rodrick also asked the Board for permission to question the Mid Jersey Shore Women’s Golf Association about possible misrepresentation for the prize allotted for the Myrn Bone Tournament of a social membership for Bella Vista Golf Course that was stated to be worth $1,000. One of our members won that prize this year and found it to be questionable. Jan Minneci motioned to give them permission to do so, seconded by Nancy Goss and all were in favor.
Cookie O’Rourke also voiced concern about the price we will have to pay Lakewood Golf Course for the Myrn Bone tournament scheduled for June 19, 2014 at Lakewood. She informed The Board that we may have to talk to the owners of the course rather than the management. This will be decided once management gives us a price for this tournament.
Jan Minneci motioned to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Katie Wauters. The meeting was adjourned at 3.00 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Jan Minneci, Secretary

Lakewood CC – WGL
September 26, 2013
Final Golf Day with Luncheon
Executive Board Present:
Cookie O’Rourke, President
Dot Rodrick, Vice President
Nancy Goss, Treasurer
Katie Wauters, Tournament Chairperson
39 Women from LCC-WGL
Absent: Jan Minneci, Secretary
Call to Order: The open meeting was called to order at 2:08 p.m. by Cookie O’Rourke. By unanimous vote, the membership dues for 2014 were raised by $5.00 to $80.00.
Secretary’s Report: The Secretary’s report from the last board meeting was posted on the website. Ann Capelli voted to accept the minutes and all in favor said “aye”.
Treasurer’s Report: Nancy Goss reported that by changing the dollar amounts on prize money and with 50/50’s sold during the season, the balance at the end of the season is $200.00. This may pay for new stakes for 2014. The Treasurer’s report was accepted by Ann Capelli and seconded by Diane Haviland.
Standing Committee Reports:
A. Katie Wauters complemented the members for being able to follow directions without too much of a problem. As Katie may be in the throes of moving next year, Ann Capelli will be the new Tournament Chair.
B. As Anne Benedict is struggling with back problems, Mary Fenton will be the new Rules Committee Chair.
C. Diane Haviland and Stella Kim remain as the chairs for the Spring Breakfast.
D. The Fall Luncheon was organized by Cookie and Dot, and they will remain as chairs for 2014.
E. Trish Tassini remains as Chair of the Sunshine Committee and has asked that she be contacted when someone in the golf family is having a problem. Trish is also the Membership Chair, and she passed out forms for joining in 2014.
F. Dot Rodrick will remain as InterClub Chair, and she reported that Lakewood is currently in 1st Place with one remaining match to be played at home against Woodlake. Kathy B-G asked to be placed on the list to play InterClub in 2014.
G. Lu Ann G-B will again post the balls in the grass Bulletin Board. Lu is asking that the members send her pictures of themselves, 3x4 would be good.
H. Sharkey Keller did a great job as Handicap Chair, along with her “silent” co-chair, Mary Fenton. She said she was just sending out reminders to players to keep their scores posted regularly.
I. Prize Chair – Hannah Infantolino reported we came in under budget for the prize money. Hannah also distributed Ringers winners. Winners in the C flight were Rochelle Robin; Mary Sullivan and Jean Green. B flight winners were Bernie Doubek; Sharkey Keller and Diane Haviland and in A flight Jo Ann Dunst; Cookie and Katie Wauters.
J. Cookie will Hostess again next year, but did ask that if anyone was interested she would sit with them and fill them in on the details. The hostess is paid her golf membership dues and weekly golf fee.
K. The Club Championship Chair, Bernie Doubek told the members not to be afraid when Club Championship day comes along. It is fun competition. This year there was a playoff for 1st place in A flight between Renu Malliah and Lu Ann G-B with Renu coming in as the winner. Nola Grenley finished in 3rd. The B flight winners were Kathy B-G; Trish Tassini and Zeba Huq. There was a tie for 1st place in C flight between Stella Kim and E.J. Choi with E.J. seceding to Stella. Jessie Lesko came in 3rd. The overall Club Championship went to Mary Fenton.
L. The President’s Cup award went to Ann Capelli who by some stretch of good luck won the two 50/50 raffles that same day.
Today’s tournament was Team Putts and Katie Wauters and Diane Haviland generously reviewed the scorecards to reveal the winners: in 3rd place and receiving $3.00 each were Angie Blasse; Stella Kim; Diane Steinmetz and blind. The 2nd place group of Sue Orlowski; Lu Ann G-B; Carol Vignevic and Sharkey Keller each received $4.00; and the big $5.00 winners with a net of 114 went to Katie Wauters; Renu Malliah; Bernie Doubek and Diane Haviland.
As the current Executive Board finished their 2nd year, a Nominating Committee chaired by Ann Capelli received ballots from the members. It was unanimously voted to keep the current members of the Board for two more years.
Cookie reported the Executive Board met about five times to discuss LCC-WGL business, and the By-Laws may be amended in the near future.
Lakewood will be hosting the Myrn Bone tournament on June 19, 2014. Cookie said she and Dot Rodrick talked with Ted, and he is going to charge $45.00 for the golfing portion of the tournament fee. Cookie and Dot want to keep the total charge for the day, including prizes, breakfast and luncheon at no more than $80.00. An open discussion about the day was held. Cookie remarked how Colts Neck did a fantastic job with the baskets at this year’s Myrn Bone, but that they had many donations from club members, and the Colts Neck course itself donates. Someone asked if we could have breakfast at Maggies. Cookie said we had talked to them in the past, and they don’t open early and wouldn’t bring staff in for a breakfast. When Lakewood hosted the tournament about five years ago, Dot and Cookie kept the theme as cheap. Lakewood course itself does not offer any help, e.g., scoring, etc. All the work involved in running the day is done by the league. A suggestion was made to buy a computer scoring program. Brenda Klauber will look into the cost. Sharkey suggested having more skill games and more prizes, e.g., closest to the line, etc. At this point Cookie asked for the help of the whole membership in running the tournament.
Everyone thanked Cookie for a great season, and Cookie thanked everyone too. Katie motioned to close the luncheon meeting, seconded by Dea Hess. All in favor said “aye”.
*************
Cookie reminded everyone that Ann runs Fall Ball, and there were five foursomes already signed up to play next Thursday.
New members for next year are Pat Brown, coming back; Hanni Ferguson; Sue Grassman from her knee surgeries and a very new member, Leslie Dunn, a friend of Bonnie Beck. There can be up to 75, and this past year we ended with 51.
Respectfully submitted,
Dot Rodrick for

LCCWGL – Opening Day Breakfast
Rosie’s Red Diner, Jackson, NJ
April 18, 2013
Executive Board Present:
Cookie O’Rourke, President
Dot Rodrick, Vice President
Nancy Goss, Treasurer,
Absent:
Jan Minneci, Secretary
Katie Wauters, Tournament Chair
While enjoying an early morning breakfast of eggs, bagels, fresh fruit and plenty of coffee, 28 members of the 2013 Lakewood Women’s League renewed friendships and made new ones. This year the membership totals 53 and includes new members Nancy Bramante and Barbara Savini, both from Eagle Ridge, and Carol Baron. Returning to Lakewood this year is Kathy Bartsche.
Cookie thanked Diane Haviland and Stella Kim for organizing the breakfast with a special compliment to the chef. This new location for opening day breakfast proved to be private and cozy, and the staff was extremely hospitable; looks like we found a new home.
Jan and Katie were in Florida but Nancy and Dot along with Cookie represented the 2013 Executive Board. A motion to approve the minutes from September 27, 2012 were accepted by Anne Benedict and seconded by Diane Haviland.
Budget 2013
The Treasurer’s Report was read by Cookie and Nancy. The report was approved by Diane Haviland and seconded by Linda Bartosik. Cookie thanked the members for their excellent feedback on how to add to the budget without increasing membership dues. Holding 50/50’s was a popular suggestion, and hosting a garage sale was an idea of Diane Steinmetz. The Executive Board will look at these suggestions as well as the possibility of rearranging the amounts given out for weekly and championship tournaments. Cookie indicated the members would be kept apprised of any decisions.
Responsibilities and Local Rule Changes
A few member responsibilities and local rules were reviewed by Cookie as a few changes were made. Any player who does not complete a round is not eligible for any prize money for that day. To be eligible for winning a major tournament, you must play eight rounds for the current season and teachers must play five rounds.
Waste bunkers on holes 4, 6 and 7 are played as “Pick and Place”, no closer to the pin, no more than 6” from original lie.
Hole #12 – If you land on the hill, you may: a) play the ball where it lies; b) go to the drop area located at the post identifying the 13th hole behind the 12th green and drop your ball two (2) club lengths from the post, no closer to the hole at a one (1) stroke penalty; or c) declare the ball unplayable, see #10 Ball Unplayable, at a one (1) stroke penalty. NOTE: IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY AND/OR SPEED OF PLAY, A PLAYER MAY OPT NOT TO RETRIEVE THE BALL FROM THE HILL AND GO IMMEDIATELY TO THE DROP AREA.
Hole #14 – You may get relief by taking one club length no closer to the hole without penalty if: a) your ball lands in the dark green grass circle (drainage area) that lies in the fairway; b) your ball lands in the ditch that runs along the right side of the green; c) your ball lands in the narrow dirt footpaths on the right side in front of the green.
Hole #15 - If your ball lands in the water, the drop area is located in front of the water two club lengths from the end of the bridge, no closer to the hole. OR, you may re-T your ball, OR drop the ball behind the water as far back as you want keeping the flag in line with where the ball went into the water. All incurring a one (1) stroke penalty.
Hole #18 – If your ball lands in the narrow dirt footpaths on the right side in front of the green, you may get relief by taking one club length no closer to the hole without penalty.
Relief from landing in the footpaths was added this season for Holes 14 and 18.
Handicap Division
There are 3 flights: A will be 0-24; B will be 25-30 and C will be 31-36.
Posting Scores
Scores should be posted on the GHIN system immediately after your round. Handicaps could change every two weeks so scores received during the period must be posted before the next change date.
T Times
The first group of the day will return to the locker room and pick the disks out of the bucket for the following week’s schedule. Note the first few groups will be listed as threesomes allowing movement by the hostess as warranted. T times will be posted on the new website that Ann Capelli has beautifully developed.
Myrn Bone
Colts Neck will host this year’s Myrn Bone tournament on June 13.
Bring A Friend to Golf
We couldn’t get a shotgun start for a member/guest so this year we will have a Bring A Friend to Golf Day on June 27. We will have a simple net play competition and perhaps hold a 50/50. Sign-up sheets will be in the locker room several weeks before June 27.
Final Golf Day
As there is no golf on Thursday, July 4, the last day of play will be October 3.
Motion to Adjourn
A motion to adjourn was made by Diane Steinmetz and seconded by Ann Capelli at 7:55 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Dot Rodrick

Weekly Tournaments for 2014:
The calendar dates for the Thursday tournaments were adjusted to reflect the year 2014. The opening of our season will be held with our traditional breakfast on April 17. The tournament for the day will be TEAM BEST BALL. Teams will consist of a mix of handicaps - for fairness. Cookie will work with Diane Haviland to set up the foursomes. Those who do not have their GHINs activated or who are still working on getting a GHIN handicap will not be a part of the TEAM BEST BALL tournament.

Respectfully submitted,
Dot Rodrick
